About ACCESS

The African Community Centre for Social Sustainability (ACCESS) is a community-based organisation in the rural district of Uganda called Nakaseke. It was founded on the premise that everyone has a right to a healthy life. Our mission is to work with vulnerable people in resource-limited settings through provision of medical care, education and economic empowerment to create long lasting change that is owned by the entire community.

Each year, we focus on strengthening the activities of ACCESS in the areas of support for orphans and other vulnerable children (OVCs), nursing and midwifery education, medical care, family planning, innovative research and global health as well as infrastructure and human resource development.

Our Community Commitment

In 2023, ACCESS concentrated its efforts on providing essential health services to rural communities, delivering 9232 outpatient services and attending to 832 inpatients. Through robust community outreach programs, 25,696 individuals received vital health interventions, while a clinical trial targeting non-communicable diseases engaged 869 participants.

Despite challenges, particularly in the education sector, where support for orphans and vulnerable children remains a pressing issue. ACCESS made commendable progress ,The nursing school enrolled 241 students, and 131 pupils were enrolled in early childhood education, with 22 graduating during the year. Moreover, 282 orphaned and vulnerable children received educational support, underscoring ACCESS’s commitment to empowering the next generation.

Economic empowerment initiatives flourished, with the establishment of eight enterprises benefiting vulnerable community members. Financial literacy training reached 216 women, and 240 ‘Dream Girls’ are now actively engaged in meaningful work, contributing to sustainable development within the community.

Notably, the health sector excelled due to the availability of funds, showcasing the impact of targeted investments. As ACCESS looks ahead to 2024 and beyond, gratitude is extended to all contributors, with a firm commitment to building upon achievements. With a continued focus on health, education, and economic empowerment, ACCESS is poised to create a brighter future for the communities it serves, fostering enduring change and sustainable development.
